MiniRAE 3000

1. DHS to Sponsor National Preparedness Month
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will sponsor the fourth annual National Preparedness Month this September. The agency encourage Americans to prepare for emergencies in their homes, businesses and communities.



2. New Guide Focuses on Retention and Recruitment of Firefighters
The U.S. Fire Administration (USFA), in partnership with the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC), has released an in-depth guide on two of the biggest challenges facing the volunteer fire and emergency services – retention and recruitment.



3. Fire Departments Best-Equipped to Handle 911 Emergency Response
Fire departments are best-equipped to deliver emergency medical services, according to a new whitepaper, “Prehospital 911 Emergency Medical Response: The Role of the U.S. Fire Service in Delivery and Coordination.”



4. ASSE: Understanding the Implications of Fire Ground Strategies
Does your local fire department have the necessary resources to fight a fire at your facility? Do you know what resources are required?



5. Whitman Defends EPA Actions in 9/11 Aftermath
During a June 24 congressional committee hearing, former EPA Administrator Christine Todd Whitman said that when she declared that the air around Ground Zero was safe in the Sept. 11 aftermath, she based her decision on the assurances of agency scientists.



6. OSHA Promotes Hurricane Relief Safety
OSHA is reminding hurricane relief workers and employers about the agency's various publications that promote safe and healthful work practices following a storm.
