IAFF: Day of Remembrance - Always Remember, Never Forget The International Association of Fire Fighters made a promise 6 years ago to "always remember, never forget" what happened Sept. 11, 2001, when terrorists launched their attacks on United States soil. With the loss of 343 FDNY members at the World Trade Centers, the day will be remembered as the darkest day in the union's history. 2. Report Confirms Problems with EPA WTC Indoor "Test and Clean" Program Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., Congressman Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., and Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, D-N.Y., claim a newly released Government Accountability Office (GAO) report details serious flaws in EPA's second program seeking to address the indoor contamination resulting from the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center, as well as the agency's ability to deal with future disasters involving indoor environmental impacts. 3. 9/11 Anniversary Marks Opportunity to Honor First Responders Renewed calls are going out to proclaim Sept. 25 as National First Responder Appreciation Day. FREE WEBCAST | | Nontoxic Chemical Inventories Tools to Profitably Green Your Workplace DATE: Tuesday, September 25, 2007 TIME: 2:00 p.m. ET/11:00 a.m. PT Every day, companies across a wide variety of industries unknowingly utilize highly toxic MRO chemicals when there are comparable, less hazardous, and even less expensive, alternatives in use within their own organization. Local site buying of these MRO chemicals often results in considerable proliferation of products that fall into the same use category throughout an organization introducing the opportunity for more toxic and higher cost products to gain a foothold in a company’s inventory and operations. Dolphin Safe Source is a new program that helps companies analyze their organization’s current chemical inventory, by leveraging MSDS data, and focus their purchases on the less hazardous and lower cost products they already use in hundreds of product categories. This new purchasing focus results in a reduction of human and environmental hazards, chemical spend, and in a reduction in compliance, handling, and disposal costs. This seminar from Dolphin Safe Source reveals the tools and practices that can help your company realize this supply chain greening and the resulting benefits. This free, 60-minute seminar will show you how inventory insight can help: - Reduce regulatory compliance and chemical handling costs
- Reduce product and vendor count and costs
- Provide greater safety for your workers
- Promote sustainability
- Alleviate administrative burdens

The House Education and Labor Committee will hold a hearing on Sept. 12 to examine if OSHA did enough to protect workers from safety and health hazards at Ground Zero after the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, and on the role of the city of New York in protecting 9/11 workers. 5. Survey: WTC Workers Have High Asthma Rates A survey conducted by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene indicates rescue and recovery workers at Ground Zero are developing asthma at a rate 12 times greater than average for the adult population. 6. FEMA, Sandia Launch Integrated Public Alert and Warning Capability The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), along with Sandia National Laboratories, have created a "next generation" system that will help ensure reliable, efficient communication to citizens in the event of hurricanes and other potentially catastrophic events. 7. Remembering Katrina On Aug. 28, President And Mrs. Bush traveled to the Gulf Coast, stopping first at Dooky Chase, a New Orleans restaurant that has been closed since Hurricane Katrina but is scheduled to reopen in a couple of weeks, for dinner with cultural and community leaders. 8. Restoring And Improving New Orleans Levees Led Zepellin said it best: "Cryin' won't help you, prayin' won't do you no good. Now, cryin' won't help you, prayin' won't do you no good.
