After considering the importance of proper fit, traction, and the capacity for ease of movement and agility, it¹s clear that a lot is riding on those two boots.
| | | 3. Survey Suggests Natural Disaster Teams are Better Prepared A new, multi-state survey indicates that natural disaster teams at public health facilities across the country are better prepared for a major national disaster like Hurricane Katrina, with respondents pointing to improvements in communications, collaboration, planning and coordination.
| | | 4) FEMA Deputy Administrator Promotes a Culture of Preparedness During a keynote speech and press briefing at the National Safety Council's 95th Annual Congress and Expo in Chicago, FEMA Deputy Administrator of National Preparedness Dennis Schrader addressed the nation's emergency preparedness efforts. Schrader stressed that citizens and communities must approach injury prevention and national preparedness by building awareness at the local level.
| | | 5) Safe Communities: Are We Safer at Work? As injury rates decline in the workplace and rise in homes, people may be safer at work than they are in their own communities. As the National Safety Council (NSC) moves to expand to its focus on safety in the community as well as in the workplace, the Safe Communities Keynote at the 2007 NSC Congress and Expo presented ways to foster safe atmospheres everywhere, not just at work.
| | | 6) HEART Act Offers Tax Relief for Volunteer Firefighters, Emergency Responders Volunteer firefighters and EMS personnel now have access to tax incentives to help them face the challenges of time-consuming training, high emergency call volumes and the struggle to balance career and family. The Heroes Earnings Assistance and Relief Tax (HEART) Act of 2007, passed earlier this month by the U.S. House of Representatives, assists volunteer responders by excluding certain benefits and incentives from taxable income.
